The Hurricanes EJHL South Jr. Team splits the weekend in the Raleigh Showcase. Their first game of the weekend was against the showcase host East Coast Eagles on Saturday night. Head Coach Shawn Ray and Eagles coach Lincoln Flagg have been coaching against each other for more then 10 years, as both coaches in the EJHL up north. Hurricanes struck first with a stretch pass to Sam Trask who broke through the defense for a power play goal. The game was a very fast up and down game that had both teams sharing scoring chances. The Game finished 2-2 after regualtion time, but it was Chriss Villerreal who fired top glove side as the sixth shooter in the shootout and Parker Bonis gloved the Eagles last shooter to secure the win. Up next, the EJHL South team faced off against the Atlanta Knights. The Knights struck first and fast as they went up 3-0 before Jack Musil got the Hurricanes on the board as the first half ended. The Knights dominated much of the first half, but it was all Hurricanes in the second. The Hurricanes tied the game up at 3 with about 6 minutes left in the game, but the Knights struck back to win the game 4-3. This coming Friday, the Hurricanes EJHL team faces off against the Florida Eels for their home opener. Puck drops at 8:30pm. "Canes " Show Well in Bruins ShootoutThe Hurricanes hit the road for the first big road trip to Boston and participated in the Jr. Bruins Shootout College Showcase. The first matchup was against the Springfield Pics EJHL Team. The Pics came out and scored on their very first shift of the game. They would not score again until midway through the second half as they were only able to get two behind Hurricanes netminder Parker Bonis. Game two had the Hurricanes facing off with the Bruins of the ESHL on Saturday. The Hurricanes had a 4-1 lead to only allow the Bruins to tie up the game. It took Steven Casaceli and Hurricanes Netminder Joseph MacConnell to win the game in the shootout. Sunday started early as the "Canes" faced off against the CD Selects EJHL team from Albany, NY. CD just came off of a big OT win against NY Applecore. It was a very fast paced first half, but The Selects had the 2-0 lead at the end. The second half was all Hurricanes as they scored 4 unanswered goals including a 4-3 to earn the two points. "All in all, I was very pleased with the performance of the players. The competed in every game they played and for two games, we had to come from behind to win." Says Head Coach Shawn Ray Next up, the Hurricanes head to South Florida to take on Florida Gulf Coast Eagles ACHA College hockey team. Saturday game will be played at Germain Arena with the puck dropping at 6pm and Sunday the puck drops at 2pm at the Ft. Myers Skatium. The Hurricanes EJHL South team will open up their regular season home games against the Florida Eels on Friday October 14th. Details will be available soon. |
